We sincerely welcome you to the Center for Offshore Wind & Green Hydrogen Ammonia at Korea Maritime & Ocean University. The Center was officially established in November 2022 with approval from the University headquarters. In order to achieve greenhouse gas reduction and realize a decarbonized society, the stable supply of zero-carbon alternative fuels for ocean-going vessels has become essential in the maritime, port, and shipbuilding sectors. In addition, demand for hydrogen and ammonia as fuels for power generation on land is expected to increase significantly. To address these challenges, technologies and business models for producing green hydrogen and green ammonia through water electrolysis powered by renewable energies are gaining global attention. The Center focuses on offshore wind energy particularly floating offshore wind along with offshore production technologies for hydrogen and ammonia using water electrolysis, the development of related infrastructure, and the cultivation of highly skilled professionals to realize green shipping, including routes through the Arctic. We expect active collaboration from domestic and international experts, research institutions, and industry partners.
